This is me, trying to do some art and have some fun! AHOY THERE ME H-ARTY'S.

Wednesday 9 December 2015

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

It has most definitely been far too long since I lasted posted up a Blog.  Things have been crazy busy and I had to give something up for a short while.  I have lots of fun stuff to report on though so you can expect some Blog posts from now on :-)

Today I am going to talk about The Liebster Awards.  I was nominated by Naomi Loo to answer a few questions about myself.  Below are the rules as taken from her fab Blog :-)

When nominated, you answer 10 questions and nominate some other bloggers! There are also a few rules:
1. Nominated bloggers must have less than 200 followers
2. They must create a blog post with a link back the blogger who nominated you
3. Create your own set of questions for your nominated blogger or bloggers

Questions:
1. What's made you really laugh recently?

I like to think I laugh a lot, laughing is something I enjoy doing!  I can't pick out one particular moment from recently, there are far too many but I guess that is a good thing :-)

2. If you had to choose one food to live on what would it be?

I'm not much of a foodie I'm afraid.  I'm going to go with something really basic and say bread as I love it, it comes in quite a few different styles so hopefully I wouldn't get too bored :-P

3. What did you want to be when you were little?

I wanted to be so many things, a nurse an architect, interior designer!  I settled on artist after a while and still love to be creative today!

3. If you could have one superpower what would it be?

Hmmm flying would be cool, I like to get places quickly :-P

4. What is the best thing you've ever done?

Oh this is a hard one,  there are many things I have enjoyed doing.  I don't think I can pinpoint just one.  I went to see The Harlem Globetrotters, that was pretty amazing as I'd always wanted to go and see them!

5. Three things you can't live without?

Photos, friends, knitting supplies

6. Name a destination that's on your list to visit and why

I want to see as much of the world as I can!  I'd really like to go to Disney World in Florida though!  It probably seems a bit odd, but ever since I was a little girl I've wanted to go.  I have an uncle who lives in Florida and my Dad used to tell me that he lived next door To Mickey Mouse.  They'd send me cards and presents from him! It used to make me so happy and still does when I think about it.

7. Who or what inspires you the most?

Any one who makes art that they love!  They inspire me greatly.  I love seeing the passion people bring to things.

8. What is your favourite recipe?

Home made roasties :-P

9. What keeps you blogging?

I love reading other people's Blog's, hearing about their lives, their loves and their interests.  I like to think that maybe people like to hear about that sort of stuff from me too.  It's a way to talk about what you love without the risk of boring people too as they can simply stop reading if that is the case.

10. If you could chose anywhere to live, where would it be?

Barcelona is my fave City although I've always liked the idea of living out my days in Italy, painting and relaxing.

So there you have my answers.  I'm supposed to nominate some Blog's myself now but I'm so late in doing this and so behind with my Blog reading that I'm just going to say that anyone who wants to answer these questions can do :-)

1) What is your favourite thing to do to relax?
2) What is the best place you have ever visited?
3) What crafts do you enjoy and why?
4) What crafts would you like to try?
5) What is your favourite season?
6) If you could have your dream job what would it be? (if you are doing your dream job what is it?)
7) What is your fave TV show?
8) What is your favourite colour?
9) If you could pick one language to learn what would it be?
10) What makes you happiest?

Knit Knit Knit Knit

Hello all :-)

I'm not too sure exactly why it has been so long since I last posted on here!  I have been doing a lot of over time in my day job and I have also been knitting like crazy as I have a craft fair coming up this time next week!  June/July/august are difficult months for me too but I decided to knit like crazy, got in to the zone and made 11 hats and lots of gloves and brooches!

I didn't want this post to be too photo heavy so here are just a few of the new hats I made!  I usually do them grey with coloured bands and bobbles but I decided to try and do different colour combos!  They are £10 (+p&p) and can be made in pretty much any colour anyone wants!  You can find them in my Etsy shop here or you can email me (snowbunnysknits@gmail.com) if you would like to get one!  They are super slouchy and comfy and cover your ears to keep you warm in the winter!  I had a custom request for one once that was a purple band, grey body of hat and a lime green bobble!  It looked fab!

Anyway,  That's all for now!  I know I'm very quiet at the moment but I am always in the background knitting and reading your fab Blogs :-)

Fantastical Felting Adventure

Hello everyone :-)

I haven't been around as much as I would like recently.  Not even on Facebook, my little Etsy shop or Twitter.  I'm so busy with the day job as there are people on holiday and people leaving that I've been pretty much working there none stop.  I always think to myself I'll do a bit when I get in but i don't get in until gone 7 then I have to make tea and eat it then all of a sudden it's almost 10 and time for bed :-P

Well anyway enough of my moaning.  I have decided to teach myself felting.  It all started with a kit I got from a craft fair last year.  the girl selling them was really lovely and we got chatting.  She made the most amazing felted and crochet pieces including a giant stags head you can put on your wall at Christmas.  I was fascinated and bought the kit.  I never opened it though, sometimes I would think to myself oh I really need to open that kit but I never did.  In the meantime I have been finding other great felters and their amazing creations.  Some of them really are beautiful.

Finally I opened the kit!!! It was a rainy day and I was quite bored and tired and I just thought now is the time.  i wish I had done it sooner, it's amazing AMAZING!! I find it quite relaxing to stab a piece of finer million sod times with a little needle....... :-P

Here are the results so far!  The first things I tried were flowers from the kit but flowers really aren't my thing so I went free style :-P  The B is a wall hanging and is actually a present for someone!  The little bunny was just me trying to follow a youtube tutorial and try 3D felting.  I must learn that bunny ears look better closer together!  I'm so excited by this new craft that I've ordered more stuff and i have BIG plans so watch this space :-)

And last but not least here is a canvas bag design I have been working on!  I can't decide if it needs more hearts or maybe some buttons between the hearts?  It's quite a big bag and I feel like these little hearts might get a bit lost on there!  What do you all think?

Well that's it for now, take care everyone :-)

Baby Bootie Bonanza

Sadly I didn't get round to doing a piece for the last week of Summer of Colour :-( Its a shame because I LOVED the last colour combo, I just couldn't find the time to sit down and do something!  Having a day job that doesn't have a set rota can be quite difficult when I'm trying to knit for my shop and do art for myself (I also try to fit in trips to the gym and visiting friends), some weeks I feel like my time management is amazing, others not so much!

Anywho, I am officially doing 3 craft fairs this autumn/winter!  I am very excited/nervous, mainly because I have no way of knowing if I have enough stock for 3 craft fairs EEK!  In a bid to get a head start I have been making baby booties, lots of different colours and styles.  they are fairly quick to make so I thought I would get them out of the way first :-P

These are the ones I have completed and photographed so far!  They are all £5 (If any one is interested in buying them please do feel free to contact me via my easy shop, Facebook, here or email) and in slightly different sizes.  I need to find a way to price them up that looks attractive for my craft fair.  If you have any ideas please do let me know, I am always looking for inspiration from crafty creative people.  Also if you have any colour suggestions hit me with them....I'm always drawn to super colourful combos and find it hard to know what other people might like :-P

I'm determined DETERMINED to look at every single Summer of Colour post, I'm way behind at the moment but I will catch up with myself at some point!  For now I'm off to work on a top secret project ;-)

Summer of Colour 2015 Green, Green, Pink

Super quick post today, I almost managed to get my Summer of Colour done this week!  I used Derwent Inktense pencils but I haven't had a chance to add the water yet :-P  I thought I would post what I have for now in case I never get round to it!!

Another Zen tangle mandala of sorts!  I'm really getting in to drawing these, I find it so relaxing!  Anyway I have to dash today!  I'm soooo behind with looking at everyone's work but I will get it done!! :-P

My hand warmers are famous (summer of colour and other bits)

Hello everyone!

So sadly I do not have anything to show for this weeks summer of colour :-( I am very very sad about this but I just did not have the time.  It is coming up to stock take in my day job and I have been working extra hours to try and make sure everything is ready!  I am determined to get this weeks done though, I don't want to miss 2 weeks in a row, that would make me extra sad!

So on to the main reason for this post!  For those of you who follow me on here you will know that I took part in my first ever craft fair in March.  I had a great time and sold a few things which was nice.  Anyway at the end of the two days a lovely lady came over to my stall to have a look at my things.  She had her own stall where she sold really amazing head dresses.  We had a bit of a chat and she picked up a pair of my hand warmers that were green with a brown leaf design on them.

These are the gloves she eventually bought!

Fast forward to a couple of Sundays a go and I settle down to watch Amazing Spaces Shed of The Year.  I noticed straight away that the lady who had bought my hand warmers was one of the contestants on the show.  I sat and thought to myself, I wonder if she still has those hand warmers she bought from me.  The show starts and they visit her (actually amazing) shed, the camera pans slowly down.......

OH MY GOSH there are my hand warmers, on the TV!! I have to say I nearly fell off my couch at this point!  I was genuinely quite excited and very happy too.  I have since learnt that the ladies name is Tracy and she is an artist.  Her amazing shed is an Eco shed that looks like an owl, it really is amazing.

So there you go, that is my news for this week :-P  I would also like to say that although I don't usually manage to reply to comments left on my Blog, I do appreciate every single one of them!!  I try to comment on all of the Summer of Colour posts but there are so many it can be difficult but I am there appreciating all of your lovely work :-)

Summer Of Colour 2015: Purple, Purple, Yellow

Another super quick post this week!  I have fallen further behind than I would have liked this week but at least I got it done before Monday :-P  I was looking forward to using these colours, they are the kinds of colours I love!  I decided to do a mandala crossed with a zentangle type thing!

This is it basically finished.  I think it might need a little tweaking but I haven't decided yet :-P I possibly should have used a more vivid purple with the black swirls but overall I'm pretty pleased with it!  I used Derwent Inktense pencils.  I'm new to using them but so far I really love them!

Anyway I really have to dash!  I look forward to seeing every ones amazing work this week :-)

Summer of Colour week 2: pink pink orange

Another quick post from me today!  I had high hopes for the pink, pink, orange week as they are the kind of colours I love!  I went for a bit of experiment...hmmm one I like, one not so much :-P

I bought some new Pebeo mixed media paints to play with.  For those of you who haven't heard of pebeo they are paints that react when you put them on to canvas and other materials.  They also react with each other!  Honestly, that is a terrible description of them...if you would like some actual proper information then click Here you can also look on youtube for some really good tutorials!  I'm still getting used to them, they react in an unpredictable way so you can't really have a firm idea in your mind because it probably won't work out like that!

I like the top one, that worked out quite well! I painted the canvas board with pink UV paint (it's soooo pink) and then just added my pebeo stuff on top to see what happened!  I have to admit I'm not very good with the stuff yet, I either add too much or not enough and I'm not getting the cool effects the youtube tutorial people are :-P It's a start though and I'm just going to have more of a play around until I get used to it!

Well that's it for now, I'm off to have a nose at everyone else's lovely work :-) It's all so inspiring!!

Sunday 14 June 2015

Summer of Colour 2015 - Blue, Blue, Green.

This is a super short post today, I'm just hopping in to post my Summer of Colour 2015 piece and will come back later to have a nose at everyone else's amazing work!

I decided to do something super simple this week to ease myself in, plus I had one of THOSE weeks and just wanted something to take my mind off it all!

I used Sharpies, Gelly roll pens and a micron pen for the outline.  I'm not entirely sure if this looks anything like I had planned but I'm pleased with the colours!  I was hoping for a zentangle sort of look but it was hard to doodle detail with the sharpies :-P

So that's it for now, I can't wait to see the next colour combo!  I really enjoyed this, I find swirly doodles help me relax :-P

Monday 8 June 2015

It turns out I like lilac a bit.

So this is just a quick stop in to say hello and show you some of the baby booties and hat's I've been working on!  I'm hoping to have a wide selection of styles and sizes come the autumn/winter ready to go in my shop!

Everything is a bit lilac and purple at the moment :-P I was working with the yarn I had left over.  Although I did buy the fancy one at the bottom, clearly I am drawn to purples!  The bottom one kind of reminds me of a painted Easter egg.  We used to have competitions in school where you would get a hard boiled egg and paint it and the winner would get a chocolate Easter egg as a prize!  They were good days.  Any colour suggestions you may have are very welcome, might help me get away from the usual colours I am drawn too :-P

The only other thing I have to say is SUMMER OF COLOUR IS HERE Hurrah!  I am quite excited about it in case you couldn't tell!

If you would like to learn more about it and maybe even give it a go visit Twinkle Twinkle Blog.  There is even a little video you can watch of Kristin making her art for this weeks colour pallet.  I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with.  There is never anything that is the same, and some of the things are just so inventive!  I actually have a holiday coming up from work so I will actually be able to keep up for the first 2 weeks at least :-P

That's all for now, I'm off to get my summer of colour colour pallet ready...oh yes!!

Snow Bunnies and baby booties

So as per usual it has been far too long since I lasted posted on here.  Every day life just seems to have a habit of getting in the way!  I'm finding it hard to juggle a day job with unpredictable hours with knitting and trying to get some art done :-(  It's times like these I wish that things were simpler!

Anyway first things first! I have to show you an amazing piece of art that I asked my lovely pal Carmen over at Whoopidooings made for me!  I commissioned her to make me a canvas of a snow bunny in her style but also my style.  This is harder than it sounds as we have the complete opposite taste in colours and stuff although I do like a lot of the same things as she does.  I sent her over some reference photos of things I really like....turns out I like a lot of bright pastel colours :-P

Here is what she came up with! Isn't it just the best thing EVER!! I am so pleased with him (even if he doesn't have a scarf on as was later pointed out to me)!  He's so smiley and happy, this is something I have never managed to achieve in any of my drawings of rabbits :-P  He is going to take pride of place in my work room :-)

I've also managed to do a little drawing myself.  I say little but my drawings are actually huge!  I have no concept of scale, I can barely fit the people on to A4 paper!!  I haven't got round to the colour stage yet and I'm not even sure if I like them but such is life!!

The top one is juts a random girl that popped in to my head, I had such trouble with the hair!  I realised I really have no clue how to draw hair that looks like its attached to a persons head :-P  The bottom one is a drawing of my fave DC character Hawkgirl.  Maybe they will look better when/if I finally get some colour on them!  They don't have much emotion at the moment!

I'm hoping to take part in Summer of Colour this year too.  At least it will give me a kick up the backside to post a little more often :-P I do love summer of colour though!  It's quite exciting waiting for the next colour prompts!!

So to knitting!  I had a custom order for a baby hat and booties!  The colour was a mint green or baby blue, I thought the mint green would make a nice change.  The wool that was chosen in the end was really lovely and knitted up well!

If anyone is interested in something similar its £5 each for the hat and booties and I can knit them in any colour you like providing there is wool in that colour :-P I'm trying to knit some to put in my poor neglected Etsy shop but I just can't seem to find the time!

Anyway that is all for now, see you all soon :-)

Artisans at The Palm House Craft Fair 2015

Hello Everyone :-)

So i took a slightly longer break than I had intended too! My poor social media pages have been a little neglected lately.  I have been working on custom orders in the background though so it hasn't been a complete waste of time.  Hopefully I can now come back feel fresh as a daisy brimming with new ideas!

So any of you who follow me regularly (or as regularly as I post :-P) will know that I had my first craft fair a couple of weeks a go.  I was super nervous that no one would buy my stuff!  I am happy to report that I did sell some things....yay!! I actually sold a couple of hats and gloves even though the sun was cracking the flags and it was like an oven in the actual Palm House!! I sold a few baby booties and brooches too.  I met some lovely people who have been doing craft fairs a while and gave me great advice.  All in all i would call it a success.  I've already signed up to another one in September and a couple more I'm waiting for replies on!

It really was a lovely couple of days.  A few of my friends came to see me and also brought me food from the lovely food stalls that were outside!  The only downside was I didn't have time to have a nose round myself.  I did pick up a couple of things from the stalls that were immediately around me. I got a lovely Bead bracelet from The beast Gecko, some bow hair clips from Moon&Bee and some lovely illustrated cards of Liverpool from Freida McKitrick.

Today I am planning to get super organised.  I'm pretty sure I say this at least once a month but i really really want to do it today :-P  I hope you all had a lovely Easter and I shall see you soon :-)

Friday 20 March 2015

The countdown begins.....

So tomorrow I take part in my first ever Craft Fair...I may have mentioned it once or twice :-P I am excited and also nervous.  I'm not very good in new and unknown situations, I always imagine the worst possible things happening for no apparent reason.  I am excited too though because I know that I could sell lots of stuff and at least I'm giving out Business cards and chatting to like minded people.

The Palm House itself is a lovely place, it's an old Victorian building (I think but don't quote me on that) that has been restored and is now used for events like Weddings and this craft fair.  You can check out the Facebook page for more info and photos (Artisans in The Palm House).

This isn't a great photo of my new business cards but I haven't had a chance to sit down and get a good one.  I love them though.  I got them from Moo as I love their website and the choice of style of cards and stickers.  The quality is fab too, I went for Mat but I might try glossy next time! I'm hoping to make a little logo for myself at some point, that I can put on the back but I'm not the best at drawing it has to be said :-P

Lastly here is a selection of new things I've been working on! I didn't have time to make as many booties as I would have liked but I'm pretty pleased with the ones I have! I really like the little Mary Jane shoes.  I went a bit crazy with heart brooches in the end, i probably should have done more of other stuff like flowers but oh well :-P

After the craft fair I'm going to take a little break.  I have some custom orders to work on and I will be catching up on some Happy snail mail I've been meaning to send for an eternity!! I'm also going to work out some ideas for new bits and pieces I can sell over the summer!

Anyway that's it for now :-)

Tuesday 3 March 2015

Still knitting hats....

I feel like I am going a little mad knitting hats in March.  I have always considered this Spring time but it does seem very cold at times still!  I guess they are done now and I can always try and sell them in the actual winter time.  I think i'm coming to the end of the hat knitting though, I have a couple more colours in mind and then they are done.  In my defence they are for the craft fair i'm going to be doing soon......getting very nervous about this now I have to say!

My latest hat colour is a nice bright pink.  I don't actually like pink that much but every now and then a shade really catches my eye, usually a super bright shade like this!  It does look pretty cute on if I do say so myself haha!

I also made a steering wheel cover for a friend of a friend's daughter (I think).  This is it finished but upside down :-P I do have pictures of it on a steering wheel but i can't work out how to get them off my phone, technology eh! I was quite nervous about this as I'd never done it before but it worked out pretty well.  It's crochet which I find harder than knitting at the moment.

I've now started knitting mug hugs/cozys.  These are much quicker to knit so I thought it would be a good way to make sure I have a full table at the craft fair.  I have no clue how much to take and my biggest fear is not selling a single thing.  Everyone keeps saying that won't happen but I can't help imagining knitted stuff won't sell that well when it's not cold.  I will have a selection of brooches, mug hugs, baby booties and hats and all the winter stock will be on sale.  I'm also going to have a sheet for orders if people see something they like but i don't have the colours they want etc.

I haven't been very arty apart from knitting at the moment!  I think once the craft fair is done I will take some time out to do some me things!! Well that's the plan anyway!

Right I'm off to the post office :-) as usual if you like anything you see on these pages please don't hesitate to email me snowbunnysknits@gmail.com....sorry for the shameless self promotion there!!

Knitting hats in February

Hello everyone!  I actually have a couple of Blog posts lined up but I'm going to start with this one today!  First I would like to thank everyone who commented on my last post about the amigurumi I've been trying!  I haven't had a chance to practise anymore as I'm bust prepping for my first ever craft fair, but I have taken everything everyone said on board  :-)

Even though its getting to the middle of February I've been trying to knit a new range of hats as personally i think it is still hat weather :-P Eventually I hope to have some matching hand warmers too!  That's the plan anyway!!

These are the three hats I've done so far!  The mustard yellow one sold within a day which i wasn't expecting at all!  I am going to redo it and make the hand warmers to match to make a little set!  I've started on the rusty red mittens, just waiting for more yarn supplies!  The hats are £12 each and I pretty much do them in any colour people ask for!  So far I've done a forest green with grey bobble, a purple and cream hat with a lime green bobble and a black and white hat with a black bobble!  It never ceases to amaze me the different colours people like :-) I keep meaning to make myself one but I never seem to have the time!

I'm currently working away on some brooches for the craft fair.  I'm really nervous as I've never done one before and March is quite late so knitting might not sell as well as it does in winter, but I guess it is all practise!  I've also started work on a new mixed media project but that may have to be put on the back burner for a little while!

This is just a first draft, I will probably draw her again too!  I want to work on the mouth and make her look a little happier.  I drew the glasses to look like my own but I'm not sure it's worked, I may try a different shape, we shall see :-)

Well that's it for now.  I have an exciting Blog post I will be doing on Friday hopefully, well its exciting to me :-P Oh if any of you are interested in the hats then please don't hesitate to email ;-)

As usual I have left it so long between blogging.  I always think it's only been a week or so when it's usually closer to two weeks!  Time just seems to pass me by without me noticing at all.  Especially since I started working on Snow Bunnys Knits pretty much full time.  I'm super busy and always have a to-do list as long as my arm but because I enjoy knitting and crochet time does go a lot quicker than when i worked in retail.  I do worry about time though, that I'm not getting things done quickly enough, that I'm not updating my shop enough, that new ideas take too long!

Anyway, in a Blog a few months a go I wrote about starting a mixed media mermaid class that was taking me ages to do because i never had enough time (there's that phrase again) to do it.  I finally decided to dedicate a fixed day and time slot to art and I'm so glad I did!  I finally managed to finish her!

I didn't actually have all the right tools or colours but I just went for it anyway and despite the fact the paper is curling up like crazy (pretty sure I shouldn't have used cold pressed paper) and I went crazy with the spray ink at the end and covered her face in a light mist of blue, I'm very happy with the result!!

This is where I last took photos, i forgot to take photos as I was going though DUR!

 Adding colour to the background

I probably should have left it at this point but I decided to add more colour!

I don't know if you can tell from here but her face is now darker where I tried to get rid of the blue spray :-P

Here is the finished painting.  It's terrible lighting so I will try and take a better one at some point!

I'm going to be starting a new class this week but I will most definitely be going back to the mermaid at some point, with better paper and different colours!  At least I can finally say I finished it though which is the main thing as I never seem to finish any of these personal projects at the moment! So I'm giving myself a pat on the back for that!!

I've also been trying to teach myself crochet and that's going very well indeed!  I'm trying to come up with cute amigurumi animals that i could maybe sell one day (looking in to CE testing has scared me slightly though :-P).

Here is what I have so far! You can't really tell in these pictures but the one on the top has come out a lot bigger because his body is fatter! I really like the big head of the bear though! I'm planning to use the same body and head so they all look similar even when they are different animals.  Which combo do you guys like best?  Ah decisions decisions!
